5 Minutes With…BABY BLOOD
27th November 2015 saw the release of ‘Figurine’, the debut single from otherworldly songwriter and producer Baby Blood, the alter ego of Denmark’s Lucy Love who has previously been supported by Rinse FM and FACT, performed worldwide and received more than a million views on YouTube.
Preferring to stay disguised Baby Blood performs as a masked super-heroine that keeps vanity and ego at a distance, visually taking motivation from the luchadores of the high flying Mexican wrestling scene, she translates their audacity in the ring into the imagery of her music. By doing this the listener is encouraged to drown themselves in the audio, not focus on a manufactured false deity. She explains, “Baby Blood toys with identity – the masculine and feminine meet in a sonic cosmos with visual cues that traverse time, place and cultures: the core of this place is art, not the personality behind the mask.”
With an EP scheduled for release in Spring 2016 ‘Figurine’ is a taste of the mind blowing, the off-kilter and the radiant sublime. Noisey have described ‘Figurine’ as sounding, “like what would happen if Purity Ring, SZA and Holy Other had a baby together and dipped it in radioactive, celestial glitter.”
We took 5 minutes to catch up with Baby Blood to talk music and influences.
