5 minutes with… Wild Culture!

WILD CULTURE is the new project from Austrian sound experts Florian Fellier and Felix Brunhuber. The duo have excelled in producing smooth melodies, driving beats and developed an affinity for experimentalism and high technical finesse along with remixing the likes of London Grammar, Andy Caldwell, Daughter and more.

They are set to release a new double A-Side on their home label, Kittbull Records, 24th December 2014.

Hi there, how are you and what are you up to today?

Hey, we are fine. The sun is shining in the mountains and we are working hard in the studio for our new Singles and Remixes.

To those not familiar with you, how would you describe your sound?

Hmmm, our sound has a lot of different influences. We try to enrich the genre which we know as “Deep House” with a special vibe, sound harmony, stories and futuristic grooves …. Our tracks are intended to submerge guests in a world of feelings and emotions to recognise the variety and minute details they contain. In many of our titles, we add analogue, organic sounds from the daily world, for example from hiking, in urban areas, or maybe just while chilling by the sea. The goal is to offer the listeners a kind of “theatre in their head”. They should close their eyes, allow the track to work on them, and imagine their own “movie in their head” to accompany the track.

What are the 5 albums and artists that have influenced you the most?

We have many artists, which influenced since we were small boys. In the electronic area the two famous Austrian producers Kruder & Dorfmeister-with the album The K&D Sessions really showed us how organic elements can be used great and influence your body and mind. Also der German band Seed with their album New Dubby Conquerors influenced us. Especially the track “Dickes B” with a huge bass line, great melody and groove showed us to use different live instruments, which are not trendy and cool, but are able to give a track something special and unique.

There is such an enormous amount of good and inspiring artists and albums that it’s really difficult to pick just a few. We think that, if you want to make music at the pulse of time you should keep an eye on a lot of extremely talented newcomers not just only in electronic music, on the on hand side, but don’t forget the classics.

What other artists do you really like at the moment and why?

There are a lot of cool artists around. We really like Tube & Berger and our Kittball Family, Rampa and the whole Keine Musik Gang, there is also a strong underground house movement from Romania we really like. We not only care about the production and the quality of the sound, also the vibe and story each and every track tells is the reason why we like certain artists and their productions. Apart from our electronic music favourites we also listen a lot to rock/indie and classical music new and old.

You released ‘Day To Night’ on Kraftek, what was your experience like working with them? How does it feel to return to your ‘home’ label Kittball?

Oh Kraftek is a great Indie label with Kaveh (one part of Pleasurekraft) as mentor. It was great to work with the whole crew of Kraftek, we had a lot of fun and the release “Day to Night” got a lot of love and attention from the crowd. The return back to our “home label” Kittball wasn’t really a return…. we never left the Kittball family. However, it was great to work with other labels and partners for us and our new release “the TIDE” which comes out on the 24th December 2014 shows that we also are able to produce not “only” harmonic tracks but also “rough and punchy” club tracks.

What are some of the key pieces of gear you use to write your tracks?

In the last few weeks we built up our new studio. In the new studio we spent a lot of time and money in the room planning process and the room acoustics. We calculated the whole studio and built up our own bass absorber, acoustic diffusers and walls…. Furthermore, we invested a lot in the signal processing units and our mixer, so we can realise projects which have most of time more than 70 single tracks.

For making a new song we have our own philosophy. Start the day with a great breakfast, play some sport and listen to some old school tracks on Youtube or some old vinyls. If you have a melody in mind, start to work it out and try to write it down. After you have the melody start with the rhythm and percussion elements. Build up a timeline for the track try to create an emotional pathway. If all of this is done, then the hard work like playing your notes on your specific instruments, recording all the analog stuff like guitars etc. etc.. Finally creating the mixdown and bringing all your stuff together is the most interesting and fun part.

You’ve produced some outstanding remixes of artists like London Grammar, Daughter & Glass Animals. Most recently you remixed Tom Misch & Carmody. Which is your favourite? Which artist would you love to remix next?

We love all the artists which we remixed in the past. It’s really hard to say which one is our favourite. All of the remixes have their own feeling, vibe and background story why the Remix sounds as it sounds. At the moment we work with a lot of great artists together for new productions, Inna from Romania with over 14 million Facebook Fans and 650 million Youtube plays or the very very talented US duo Karmin with a huge fan base. We can’t wait to show the crowed our new productions which show Wild Culture a little more “pop” and also “real deep” way.

Do you have any information regarding upcoming releases, projects, DJ mixes or collaborations in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?

As we mentioned before, we start the year 2015 with a lot of new collaborations all around the world. This allows us to learn and experiment with new production philosophies, trends and musical styles which is always a great inspiration for us. We also premiere a new live set with band for a whole new experience, furthermore a tour in Australia, USA and UK is in planning. However the year 2015 stands for a lot of exciting changes and new horizons.

Finally, if you weren’t a musician what would you be?

Wild Culture is not only a music project. We see it more as a life philosophy with natural spirit. We are both studying different degree programs and work hard on projects like developing our own Plugin’s and Tools….. So it’s always great that we can link our musician projects with our study and create something new.
