Abbey Road Recording Console To Be Sold Off
An Abbey Road Studios recording console – an EMI TG12345 MK IV, to be exact – will be auctioned off by Bonhams at the TCM Presents Rock and Roll Through the Lens sale in New York on March 27.
The working console – which is expected to fetch a six-figure price tag – will be on view to the UK public at Bonhams Knightsbridge for a week leading up to the auction.
The console, one of two custom built by EMI engineers, was used extensively in Abbey Road’s Studio Two between 1971 and 1983, including by Pink Floyd during the Dark Side Of The Moon recording sessions, as well as George Harrison, Kate Bush and Paul McCartney. According to former Abbey Road engineer Brian Gibson, the EMI TG12345 MK IV is “the greatest console ever constructed.”
