Bambii – One Touch
Recently seen behind the scenes of Kelela’s On The Run, Toronto DJ and producer Bambii is arguably one of the most exciting new acts to emerge from the Great North’s queer club circuit. Her exhilarating productions are the sort of tracks that sweep you up and leave you winded, non-stop rave dioramas cobbled together from Bambii’s influences. Those skew toward jungle and dancehall, a nod to the producer’s Caribbean roots, but also the slept-on dancehall scene that exists below the surface of her hometown.
One Touch finds itself at the intersection of UKG, jungle, and dancehall. It’s a gloriously sophisticated concoction that borrows arts from each of these and synthesises them into a collage designed for the dancefloor. Juxtaposing siren synths, pitched down dancehall samples, and pitched up UKG vocals, Bambii weaves all of these into the folds of a jittering breakbeat whose peaks and valleys are defined by serpentine, mercurial bass. One Touch is as familiar as it is futuristic, and further testament that Bambii is one you should be excited to watch.
