Ben Böhmer plants the seed for upcoming ‘Bloom’ album with new single, ‘Best Life’ (ft. JONAH)

Celebrated German electronic music maestro Ben Böhmer has announced his inaugural studio album in three years, titled Bloom and slated for release on September 27th, 2024 via Ninja Tune. Alongside this exciting revelation is the debut of his latest single, ‘Best Life’, featuring Berlin-based singer-songwriter duo JONAH, and the announcement of an extensive 8-stop series of live performances scheduled throughout the UK and Europe this autumn. Böhmer’s prowess in songwriting and composing takes center stage on Bloom, collaborating with esteemed artists such as indie icon Lykke Li, alternative-pop duo Oh Wonder, and Enfant Sauvage from the acclaimed French duo The Blaze. The album showcases a diverse range of styles and tempos, making his earlier tracks seem like mere breadcrumbs in comparison.

Ben has garnered widespread acclaim for both his music and live performances, earning praise from fans and influencers alike. In 2023, he concluded the largest North American live tour to date where he consistently sold out venues months in advance, concurrently amassing a staggering 3 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone. His electrifying Cercle performance has exceeded 32 million views, solidifying its position among the top 10 most watched electronic music sets ever on YouTube. Sharing festival stages with luminaries such as Caribou, Four Tet, Bicep, Jamie xx, and Amelie Lens, Ben showcased his talent on prominent platforms. Additionally, in 2022, he launched Portraet, a four-night residency at the renowned open-air Ibiza venue Cova Santa, featuring collaborative performances with artists like Barry Can’t Swim, HAAi, Sofia Kourtesis, and more.

Following the groundbreaking global tour, Ben Böhmer deliberately retreated to his creative sanctuary: his studio. It is within this space that he rediscovers his true muse, delving into spontaneous creativity and refining his craft with unwavering dedication. While his debut album, Breathing (2019), explored themes of grief, and its successor, Begin Again (2021), delved into the concept of separation, Bloom marks a new chapter in his artistic evolution. Despite amassing nearly 1 billion streams across platforms and captivating audiences worldwide with over 200 live performances in 2022, Böhmer found himself straying from his authentic path. Bloom serves as a reset—an assertive return to his roots and improvisational essence. Through Bloom, listeners are invited to witness Böhmer’s personal and artistic growth, as he embarks on an exhilarating journey of exploration and innovation within the confines of his studio.

‘Best Life’ offers us an exhilarating glimpse of what is to come with Bloom. JONAH’s soft, wistful vocals pair harmoniously with Böhmer’s gentle shaker percussion and twinkling synths. A driving yet dreamy piece of indie electronica, the track transports the listener to a car ride on a hot summer’s eve, a floating moment steeped in yearning and reminiscence as the city’s neon landscape glimmers in your periphery. The B-side, titled ‘One Last Call’, features Berlin live electronic act Felix Raphael on vocals, is a gentle, pulsing piece of melodic house, not quite as kaleidoscopic as its predecessor but an easy listen nonetheless, full of feeling and musicality.
