BURR ISLAND RELEASE SERENE DEBUT ALBUM ‘DAYS DREAMT’
UK-based acoustic folk duo Burr Island shared their debut album Days Dreamt, on July 5th via Left Foot Records. The album premiered on notable publication EARMILK. It was impeccably produced by Steve Cradock, and mastered by Julian Lowe who has worked with the likes of Jamiroquai and Massive Attack. The duo are comprised of best friends Tom England and Oskar Porter, and have received support from industry giants Robert Plant and Noel Gallagher.
Burr Island have garnered over 250,000 streams across platforms for their first four releases, creating an exceedingly bright future for the duo. After recording at Kundalini Studios in Devon with Steve Cradock (Ocean Colour Scene, The Specials), their first five singles received support from numerous tastemakers, including CLASH Magazine, BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio London with an incredible live performance on Robert Elms’ show. Taking their inspiration from the likes of Lennon/McCartney, Paul Simon and Crosby Stills & Nash, the duo have been compared to other indie folk luminaries such as Fleet Foxes and Flyte.
Days Dreamt is a divine and tender album, driving a marvelous 60s-soaked folky nostalgia into the present. The pair’s enchanting, lilting vocals engulf the listener from beginning to end, while sweet offerings are made from various instrumentalists adding a pop of colour to a project that is sonically delicate yet thematically potent. In the focus track ‘Mother’, the duo express their strong discontentment for the rigidity of everyday life. It’s a playful, animated track that carefully balances the seriousness of the lyrics with a playful guitar-focussed melody and beat.
The pair shared: “We are very excited to offer this to the world. A debut record feels like a bit of a landmark and it feels like we squeezed every inch of our creativity into making it. This album is born out of a decade of friendship, it highlights our love for the natural world, includes an existential questioning and a long for the divine, and rejoices in the beauty of friendship and a gratitude for the lives we’ve led so far. We’d also like to thank everyone who made this possible, particularly the wonderful musicians who all added so much to the record, to Julian Lowe, our mastering engineer, and most of all, to our producer, Steve Cradock, and his wife Sally, who have worked tirelessly, taking on this project as if it was their own. We’ll be forever grateful for your boundless support and generosity.”
