ByteDance releasing AI music generating tool, ‘Ripple’

TikTok’s parent company ByteDance has introduced Ripple, a new app that allows users to generate music by humming or singing. This app aims to simplify the process of creating royalty free soundtracks for short-form video content for those who are not familiar with traditional digital audio workstations (DAWs).

Ripple utilises machine learning technology to produce a song in the user’s preferred style. The app has been trained using ByteDance’s own music library and licensed content, enabling it to generate various musical elements such as drums, bass, and keyboard parts. However, it does not provide vocals automatically; users will need to record their own vocals separately.

The length of the music generated corresponds to the input provided by the user. Therefore, a short humming or singing session would not result in a three-minute track. However, it appears that Ripple offers editing features similar to those found in DAWs, allowing users to cut, copy, and loop material as needed.

Currently, Ripple is in closed beta testing in the United States, but it is expected to be launched worldwide in the future.
