Earlier this year, fans worldwide were left devastated when Daft Punk announced their split in February. The French duo and electronic music pioneers were made up of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter. Now, Bangalter has announced his first project following the split. He will be composing the score for a new ballet titled Mythologies. The French ballet is produced by Opéra National de Bordeaux and Ballet Preljocaj, and will focus on the “founding myths that shape the collective imagination.”
Mythologies will run for an hour and a half and is directed by renowned choreographer and founder of Ballet Preljocaj, Angelin Preljocaj. Musical direction is by Romain Dumas, who will oversee the performance of Bangalter’s score by the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine. It will run over July 1-10, 2022, at Bordeaux’s Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux.

Bangalter has previously composed soundtracks for cinema, most recently for French director Gaspar Noé’s film Climax. Daft Punk announced their split after 28 years together with a long-form music video called Epilogue. Over the course of their career, Daft Punk became renowned as pioneers of the French House movement, with their brand of electronic funk having a significant impact on the sound and direction of popular music in the 2000’s. The reasons behind the split are still unclear. Watch Epilogue below.
