Electro-indie Band Vök Share New Single ‘Autopilot’

Dreamy electro-indie band Vök hail from Iceland and have just released their first track since their 2017 album ‘Figure’, a track called ‘Autopilot’. The band formed in 2013 and started writing material out of a happy accident; singer Margrét Rán Magnúsdóttir, and saxophonist Andri Már entered an annual band competition in Iceland called Músíktilraunir but didn’t have any material. The solution? Write and rehearse a whole lot of brand new original compositions! Vök ended up winning the competition, and have been making music ever since.

The band has a diverse dream-pop and electro-indie sound and can be compared to a range of artists, including The Knife, The XX, Poliça and Phantogram. Since their inception, Vök have been rapidly gaining attention, with over 150 thousand monthly dedicated monthly listeners on Spotify and one of their uploads on Youtube having racked up over 800 thousand views.

The group’s newest track, ‘Autopilot’ is beautiful bittersweet number, featuring vibrant synth lines, catchy vocal melodies and crisp electronic beats. When asked about it’s meaning, Margrét Rán Magnúsdóttir explained that the song is centred around “addiction and being high on life. It’s quite personal,” which comes through in the mood of the song. There is a ‘high’ feeling throughout the song, but also an undercurrent of melancholy that suggests what goes up must come down.
