The Playground PR @ The Great Escape

THE PLAYGROUND PR is pleased to announce our stage at The Great Escape Festival where we will be showcasing some great up and coming talent at the Mesmerist on the 16th May. Blurring the lines between Folk, Indie, Rock and even Drum N Bass join us for an afternoon of great talent from the likes of Auction for the Promise Club, Glass City Vice, Hein Cooper, Jingo, Ordinary Noise and Saal.

►AUCTION FOR THE PROMISE CLUB- Their debut EP, recorded at London’s famed Abbey Road Studios, received recognition across the country and now, Auction For The Promise return with their latest release ‘This May Hurt’ – a single that expects to get a very similar response. Musically inspired by the likes of Bjork, Radiohead and Muse; the Cornwall three piece wear their influences on their sleeves with this offering, if not through sound, through context.

►GLASS CITY VICE- With their recent single “Landslide” being picked up by MUSIC WEEK, the band already have a strong reputation for their live performances, which has seen them play alongside the likes of well respected rock acts such as The Xcerts, Rival Schools, You Me At Six as well as an impressive string of hits, produced by the likes of Matt O’Grady (You Me At Six, Deaf Havana, Don Broco, Your Demise), Gez Walton (The King Blues, Skindred), John Davis (Lana Del Rey, U2, Plan B) Harry Hess (Chicago, Billy Talent, Ramones).

►HEIN COOPER- is an Australian indie musician and songwriter from Milton, New South Wales. Cooper was playing a gig in a small bar in Sydney when he was discovered by Franz Shuller (Half Moon Run’s manager) who was immediately bowled over by his talents. Cooper was signed to Indica Records very shortly after. Since then, the singer/songwriter has toured with Half Moon Run and Thelma Plum, have supported Bonjah and Donovan Frankenreiter as well as performing at Canadian Music Week in Toronto and festivals throughout Australia. Drawing influence from the sounds of Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, Lykke Li, Ben Howard, James Blake and Bon Iver Cooper has a loyal fan base both in Australia and overseas that’s constantly growing

►JINGO- Jack Buckett and Joe Reeves met Katie (now) Buckett in Brooklyn, New York, before luring her back to the bright lights of East London. On returning to the big smoke, guitars in hand; Jingo, along with the new addition to the rhythm section, Chris Smith, have found themselves drawing influence from BRNS, Not Blood Paint, Interpol, Wolf Alice, Jeff Buckley, Prince and Lana Del Rey to create their vivacious, driving sounds. In 2013 the band won the “Made in Shoreditch” competition that entitled them to two days recording time at the infamous Strongroom Studios (Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode, Radiohead, British Sea Power, Primal Scream) – the end result of which was “When You Want Me”: a single doused in originality that begs to be heard.

► ORDINARY NOISE- a four-piece indie band from Colchester. With support from BBC Radio 2, Steve Lamacq’s and Jarvis Cocker’s shows on BBC Radio 6, Tom Robinson’s Fresh Fave and as number 1 out of the 50 best singles released in 2014 by Alternative Tracks. They have recently supported Jeffrey Lewis and the Jrams as well as playing on the main stage at Hop Farm Festival 2014.

► SAAL- Of Dutch and Indian descent with a proportion of her family residing in South America, SAAL needn’t look far for styles to influence her sound. SAAL welcomes her roots into her music with open arms and the evidence of her eclectic background is crystal clear. Her productions are a testament to her talents and the influences that have created the link between the two. Pulling together Eastern and Western influences SAAL is an artist that needs not only to be seen or heard, but experienced. Compared by the industry to Hybrid Soundsystem, Kate Bush and PJ Harvey; SAAL combines styles, breaks genres and experiments with her sweeping vocal range to make music that is nothing short of hypnotic.
