Interview: 5 minutes with Jacy
Californian-born Jacy has recently released her single ‘Brand New’ featuring Myles Parrish of Kalin and Myles. The track looks to set the young starlet’s career on an unstoppable upward trajectory. We touch base with the singer about creating a balance between a teen and a pop star:
Tell us how you gather material for your songs and get the juices flowing.
Well, I am just 17, but I have had some pretty cool experiences with many different challenging situations – with boys, school, friends and social situations. I start with lyrics, something has to inspire me to write. It’s the way I express my emotions, it’s the way I make sense of the situation. I can always pull from two different situations or tweak the people from them and make it into its own song if that make sense. From there, I either work with my producers for the music or get out my guitar.
What music are you listening to currently?
Halsey, 1975, BeBe Rexha. I admire their style, their individuality and their talent.
What are the 5 albums that have influenced you the most?
Lately, Halsey’s new album. From the past, The Neighborhood’s I Love You.
What would you say some of the challenges artists face today in the music industry?
Exposure, pressure to be someone they are not, competition, lack of support from their family.
Is there a gig that has stood out so far? Share some details.
ENDFEST in Sacramento, CA. This was a gig that I did in May 2017. The lineup was Halsey, 5th Harmony, DNCE and a few more. Three years ago when I was in a girls group we played a very small stage where ENDFEST was being held the same day. I said to myself, someday very soon I will be on that stage. Three years later, I achieved that dream. It’s pretty cool to live out a dream, at the time I was 16. I will never forget that and how hard I worked to get there.
Anyone you want to share a stage with?
Halsey, Bebe Rexha, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Ed Sherman,
Do you have any information regarding upcoming releases, projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?
I have two awesome new singles that are coming out in the next couple months. The first called ‘DangerAngel’. The second is called ‘OK2B’. I am so proud of these two songs. They each have a video that reflects what I was feeling when the songs were written. I can’t wait until they are released. I will continue to do the tour that I do during the school year. This tour gives me the opportunity to sing for Middle School and High School students and pass on a positive message. I’m also looking forward to doing any upcoming tour dates with Myles Parrish.
