Interview: Five minutes with Eone
Under the moniker Eone, DJ and producer Simon Mitchell has been sharing superb bass-heavy mixes and his dynamic productions laden with wavy synths and scintillating percussion.
We recently had the pleasure of premiering his track, ‘Swift Blades’ off of his latest EP Digital Visions, released August 30th via London-based label SYNES.

Hey, how are you and what are you up to today?
Easy. Good cheers. Currently watching The Great Gatsby and trying to figure out why Baz has insisted on soundtracking dubstep for a film set in the 1920s. And avoiding starting this pile of marking whilst trying not to look out of the window at sunny skies.
How did you get into producing? How long have you been at it and what inspired you to start?
It just felt like a natural progression for me, tbh. I started DJing because I wasn’t feeling the music being played by the same people week in, week out back home. Once I started playing out I then thought right, now I’m playing the tracks I want to hear, I want to start making the tracks too. I’ve been making music for almost 10 years now but I’ve been playing instruments since I was about 5. I think that’s what inspired it all. Just always being around music.
What have you learned through the creation and release of your latest E.P Prevarication?
The music that ends up being liked the most by people will always be the one you like the least!
How do you stay creatively motivated?
That’s the million-pound question right there. By stepping away from the screen mainly haha. And teaching myself new things. At the moment I’m currently learning Pure Data.
How do you spend your free time when you are not making music?
Free time? What’s that? Haha. Trundling about on my skateboard when my body allows me. That’s my favourite thing for sure. Or being a general Homer on the sofa.
What is the best gig you have ever done? Why?
Playing the closing set for Numerology Records will always stick in my mind. Full-on roadblock event where the entire Pool Valley Coach Park was rammed. The police kept trying to lock it off but we just ignored them and kept playing. It was live too, which is always really fun.
And the worst?
Haha, too many. I use to play a lot of pub gigs back when I was a student at uni so I’d turn up to some of the cruddiest setups. Mix and match turntables, terrible earthing, mixers with faders stuck on full volume, all of that. Definitely means you can throw the sketchiest setup at me and I’ll smash out a show no probs 😉
If you could put the ultimate line-up together who would you book and where would you play?
Mssingno B2B Plata, ptwiggs B2B Grasps_, LTHL B2B Pholo, L U C Y B2B Glume, DJ Sagepay and then just a big mashup with all my pals from Save Yourself. And at Village Underground. I really love it there. Such a great space. Oh and M.I.C and Slowthai on mic duties. Bringing extra greaze 😉
What’s next? Any exciting projects or collaborations you can tell us about?
I’m currently creating a music-based app which has been blowing my mind apart then hopefully a very special guest mix for a very special radio station later on in the year.
