Interview: Five Minutes with Junior Sanchez

Junior Sanchez reminds the world of the joy of disco in his latest EP, Nobody Bring U Down. The US-based producer is co-owner of the label Kultur, which is aimed at keeping the narrative of house music alive, especially while representing the spirit of marginalised communities. The producer finds himself at home on stage, celebrating success at major festivals such as Electric Daisy Carnival, Ultra Music Festival, Winter Music Conference, and the Amsterdam Dance Event. Looking towards the future, Junior Sanchez is planning on sharing a CBD infused Iced Tea range with the world shortly.

Set the tone for us. Why the arts?

It’s the only true real freedom that we have… 

Which comes first when you’re producing – the sound or the idea? 

The idea usually comes first. There’s always a spark that sets up the whole vision 

Does your material feature any collaborations? 

From time to time my music does feat collaborations. 

What’s on your current playlist? 

I would say on heavy rotation is SAULT’s new album NINE, and I’ve been listening to the new Billie Elish. I like her writing and vocal delivery as well as her brother’s production.

Tell us about the chemistry you have with your fans on stage. 

It’s real. Especially when I’m playing more intimate venues, the connection is undeniable.

What techniques do you experiment with to get your original sound? 

Playing with synths sounds layering or even sampling and deconstructing samples are techniques that I use to help my craft 

Take us through a day in the recording studio.

Wake up, coffee, studio, some emails, then lunch, maybe some more coffee, then studio then bed. 

Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, “this is what I want to do”? 

When I was a teenager and doing my first record while I was a sophomore in high school, and thinking to myself “this is what i want to do with my life” and never looked back.

What do you keep close by while you’re playing a set? 

A second cloned USB lol maybe some tequila

Yes, KC Wray, Blaqwell, Currents, Avision, Ant LaRock and Cookiee Kawaii 

What gets your creative juices flowing? 

Books, films, documentaries, food, travel, my family 🙂 especially my wife 😉

Mac Pro, avid Protools, abelton live, ssl fusion, avid carbon, neve 1083c Townsend labs mic, dangerous 2Bus + Monitor ST, Adam’s S3HX and GML 8200 eq curve bender. 

Any side projects you’re working on? 

A few things in the pipeline, a secret project with a UK artist that turned out to be a full album. As well as some upcoming collaborations w Carlo Lio, MatJoe, LP Giobbi, Josh Butler, Low steppa, to name a few . 

How have you refined your craft since you entered the industry? 

Stayed focused and never stopped learning news ways of working and creating music 

Breakdown the news for us: what can we expect from you this year? 

A lot, a lot and a lot of music… My release schedule is well into 2022.
