We find out what makes this duo tick in the interview below below.

Set the tone for us. Why the arts?

Turning our childhood creativity and passion for music into a career never felt like something we really chose, but rather something that was inevitable.

Which comes first when you’re producing – the sound or the idea?

I’d say the idea usually comes first. Our songs usually start with music and then grow the lyrics and melodies.

Does your material feature any collaborations?

Not on this release, but we love working with friends when we can all safely be in a studio together.

What’s on your current playlist?

Glass Animals, Taylor Swift, Chvrches, Phoebe Bridgers, Rosie Tucker, St. Vincent, and Baths

Tell us about the chemistry you have with your fans on stage.

We love being on stage, it is truly the happiest place.  Our fans are amazing and so loving. The best moments are when the whole room is singing together, arms around each other, the lights bright so we can see everyone’s faces…..just pure magic!

What techniques do you experiment with to get your original sound?

Having the same voice in every song is helpful. Because of the natural breathiness of Emma’s singing voice, certain instruments and tones sound more complimentary. We love experimenting with different piano and synths, along with natural samples such as ocean waves or birds chirping.

Take us through a day in the recording studio.

We don’t live near each other, so we talk every day for 2 hours to work on music. Usually, we get on FaceTime, have a snack together, talk about plans for our next releases, then work on any of our 10 or so songs we usually have in the works at any given time :).

Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, “this is what I want to do”?

Pretty much every time we get on stage I think. We work so hard behind the scenes for so long, and finally have the payoff of getting in front of loving fans, doing what we love. Having that opportunity is an amazing gift that we never take for granted.

What do you keep close by while you’re playing a set?

A cup of tea, plenty of water, a towel or two if it’s hot!

Any emerging artists on your radar?

Really love Rosie Tucker and Abhi the Nomad, two super cool artists on the rise.

What gets your creative juices flowing?

Driving, cooking, anything that lets the mind wander a bit.

Take us through your collection of gear, tech or software that accompanies your creative expression.

I (Emma) use a TC-Helicon Live Touch on stage which enables me to sing live harmonies, loop sections of my voice, and control my own reverb/delay.

Any side projects you’re working on?

We both write music for people as freelance gig workers “on the side”. Nick produces hundreds of songs per year for rappers, vocalists, and aspiring producers. I write and record for artists in addition to doing a lot of voice-over work.

How have you refined your craft since you entered the industry?

Talking a lot with peers, being able to meet many people we look up to, pushing ourselves to expand our music into different genres. We’ve grown a lot since we were 18, and have always loved challenging ourselves.

Breakdown the news for us: what can we expect from you this year?

This spring was full of experimental covers and videos. We also finished a few original songs we really love, and ‘Slow Motion’ is the first of those to come out.

Famous last words?

“I’m bored with it all” – Winston Churchill
