Hi there, how are you and what are you up to today?
I’m good thanks! I just got back from my walk and going to just be in the studio and experiment with some new music today.
Tell us about your journey in music, how long have you been producing? What inspired you to start?
I started playing the drums when I was very young. At 13 I got a bunch of microphones and a 16 channel mixer because I wanted to record myself playing the drums, did not really work out very well because I did not know what I was doing haha. However, I started playing to my favourite hip hop songs and recording it, that is when I came across a software called ‘Fl Studio’ and realised everything that it allowed you to do, and I was hooked since then. Later, I started getting piano lessons and I have been trying to teach myself bass and guitar for some years now. So it is hard to say what inspired me to start in the first place because music has been there all my life, I guess that is what inspired me.
Take us through your collection of gear, tech or software that accompanies you.
I use Logic Pro and pretty much work in the box. I use various Vst’s but I try to keep my sound organic by integrating live elements like bass, guitar and piano, I also have friends around me that help me with that!
What kind of relationship do you have with the internet? How does this inform your artistic expression?
I have been posting my music on the internet ever since I started producing, that was the time when Soundcloud was becoming very popular. I guess growing up in this time comes with good and bad sides. When I was younger, my sound was influenced by how all the other artists appeared to be on the internet and I guess that can shape someone in a negative manner because you think you are not good enough because your music does not sound as good compared to what others are uploading. However, it was amazing to discover so much amazing music from different genres every day – that has definitely filled me with a lot of inspiration all the time. I guess it depends on how you look at it!
Give us an idea of the culture around electronic music in Berlin.
I love how diverse it is. You fill find good parties almost every day of the week no matter the genre. Although Techno is probably the most influential genre in Berlin, you will find events that cover all sorts of different experimental genres. Very good to get new inspiration as well!
Do you experience ‘creative block’? What gets your creative juices flowing?
I think I used to, back when I would worry too much about the outcome of my music. I have to remind myself that It is really all about enjoying the process of it. It is about getting rewarded in the moment, and not after. Also, to this day, I produce different genres all the time. Of course, I will get tired and be out of my creative juice if I try to make techno all day for a week. I love to make RnB, Hip-Hop, Rap, alternative and also just very experimental stuff with friends. I think as long as you do what you feel like and do not limit yourself to a certain sound or genre, you will not experience ‘creative block’.
Who are the emerging artists on your radar?
I believe Tom Flynn is an extremely underrated producer, absolutely love his music!
I also love listening to AK420.
Do you have any particular gigs or festivals that you dream about playing?
Nature One is a pretty big festival not far from where I am from where I used to go with my friends, would definitely be a dream to play there!
Who would be your dream collaborator?
This is a very hard one! There are so many artists in my genre that I love listening to and would be down to collaborate with, however, I feel like Claptone, who is one of my favourite artists, would be a dream come true for me to collaborate with.
Breakdown the news for us: what can we expect from you this year?
I have an EP coming up, that I have been working on the past months, and I am hoping to release it at the end of this summer. I have many tracks laying around, so I really just have to organise everything and see what I want to give out.
Famous last words?
All about love.
