Remaining at the top of Beatport’s Deep House chart for two consecutive months last year, Serge Devant is a force to be reckoned with. This year Devant has returned with dancefloor-ready EP Third Planet via record label Rebellion

Long-time pals with label-head Damian Lazurus, Devant has released music via Lazarus’s imprint Crosstown Rebels, as well as Jamie Jones label Emerald City. Since then, Devant has been deemed as one to watch by several industry champions.

We find out what a typical day at the office is like for this talent.

Set the tone for us. Why the arts?

Why not?

Which comes first when you’re producing – the sound or the idea?

Which comes first, then chicken or the egg?

What’s on your current playlist?

Ambient.

Tell us about the chemistry you have with your fans on stage.

It’s hard to describe, also there’s also lots of chemistry in the green room.

What techniques do you experiment with to get your original sound?

If I told you all the techniques, it wouldn’t be original anymore.  The secret would be out !!!

Take us through a day in the recording studio.

Wake up, record all day, delete, record again. Go to sleep, check it in the morning, delete it. Do it all over again.

Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, “this is what I want to do”?

When I was really high on the dancefloor at Twilo.

What do you keep close by while you’re playing a set?

DJ equipment for sure, nothing else really.

What gets your creative juices flowing?

A good night out and day out, and the next night :).

Take us through your collection of gear, tech or software that accompanies your creative expression.

I don’t really have tons of gear, mostly Roland stuff that stays there all the time. The rest is in a constant cycle of trying and playing and trying something new

How have you refined your craft since you entered the industry?

Just followed my taste.

Breakdown the news for us: what can we expect from you this year?

Lots of good music and hopefully some parties.
