Exclusive: Patrick Perez crafts an experimental ode in “On Point Phife”

Patrick Perez is an experimental producer out in Toronto, Canada that has been crafting strange music with some of the city’s strangest artists, concocting their own version of the LA-born beat scene- composing sinister beats influenced by both analogue technologies as much as they are by the MPC and sampling.

Combined with the collective sadness the hip hop world faced earlier this week, Perez has sampled A Tribe Called Quest, put it on a loop and built his own world, Phife Dawg and co resonate and clearly influence the track, but the end product is entirely Perez’s own.
