Goldie’s ‘Timeless’ Is 20 Years Old

DJ, producer and Metalheadz label founder Goldie released the landmark drum & bass album ‘Timeless’ via Pete Tong’s FFRR Records 20 years ago.

Goldie’s debut album, ‘Timeless’ featured contributions from Dego and Marc from 4Hero, Moving Shadow founder Rob Playford and vocalist Charlemagne, and is widely credited with expanding the horizons of drum & bass, not least for its epic 21-minute title track, which ‘Energy Flash’ author and rave culture commentator Simon Reynolds described at the time as “the most accomplished, undeniably musical opus that Hardcore’s yet produced.”

The album fused the trademark chopped up breakbeats of drum & bass with symphonic textures, female vocals and elements of jazz, R&B, ambient and soul. Groundbreaking tracks like ‘Pressure’, ‘Angel’ and ‘Inner City Life’ are still revered today within the electronic music community.
