Acclaimed music outfit, Gorillaz, have just shared the official music video for ‘Tranz’, taken from their most recent album, ‘The Now Now’. Hailed as The World’s Most Successful Virtual Act, the Gorillaz give a mesmerising performance in the character’s first ever live performance video for ‘Tranz’, which is also the four-piece’s only live performance since 2010’s unforgettable MTV EMA performance.
In this new video release, lead singer 2D commands the stage with aplomb alongside bandmates Noodle and Russel Hobbs, who both give scintillating performances on guitar and drums, respectively. The performance also features Gangreen Gang’s Ace on bass standing in for the temporarily incarcerated Murdoc Niccals, giving us that tenacious bassline that cuts through ‘Tranz’, giving it groove. The performance is topped off with colourful visuals that bend and warp around the band, creating a surreal backdrop for the show.
The official music video for ‘Tranz’ is directed by Gorillaz co-founder Jamie Hewlett and co-director Nicos Livesey, in collaboration with animation wizards Blinkink and Paris-based creative production powerhouse Eddy. The visuals blend the classic hand-drawn style that is the signature of the Gorillaz group, as well as surreal claymation pieces, which all-in-all makes for a captivating psychedelic experience.
