Listen to William John Titus Bishop’s latest, ‘I Don’t Remember You At All’
William John Titus Bishop has unveiled his latest single, ‘I Don’t Remember You At All’, on February 16, 2024 via Warner Bros Music. The single was produced, mixed mastered and recorded in Brighton, UK and features a breakaway from the production of his earlier albums, a sound which Bishop is more comfortable calling his own. The single comes at a point when Bishop had been looking for a sound more distinctive than the typical singer-songwriter, and its use of synthesisers and keyboards marks Bishop’s development and evolution of his sound.
Born in London, Bishop performed orchestral works and other musical genres before learning to play the guitar and perform at smaller venues on the London circuit. He was awarded an MA in English Literature and studied for a PhD under Brian Cummings, fellow of the British Academy. From London, he moved to Brighton, learning piano from Robin Coward, pianist for Passanger, and Camille Phillips, drummer with the Subways. He then recorded three full-length studio albums and amassed a following of over 1.5 million on social media and his last album gained 4 million Spotify streams in its first week.
The single explores the realms of requited and unrequited love, unfolding the tale of a couple who serendipitously encounter one another, immerse themselves in a love that teeters on ambiguity, and ultimately drift apart. Distorted keys and shimmering ambient synthscapes create a distinctly experimental ‘anti-ballad’ instrumental over which Bishop’s echoey spoken-word vocals float as they tell their tale in a tone that is bittersweet and wistful.
