Members of LCD Soundsystem announce DJ tour, ‘Ladies of LCD Soundsystem’
Written by Maya-Rose Torrão
Acclaimed electro-rock band LCD Soundsystem’s Gavin Rayna Russom and Nancy Whang have just dropped the news that the two of them will be embarking on a DJ tour as ‘Ladies of LCD Soundsystem’. The tour will be a just under two months-long US stint that begins in Salt Lake City in October and will wrap up at the end of November in America’s city of angels, Los Angeles.
Central to Gavin Rayna Russom‘s identity and aesthetic is the challenging of fixed ideas which surround gender and all of the social frameworks that accompany it, an idea which also shapes how she designs and builds her custom analog synthesizers, both for her own music and for others. Known in the electronic community as ‘The Wizard’ for her technical prowess, Gavin Rayna Russom has built instruments for the likes of James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem), Tim Goldsworthy (UNKLE, The Loving Hand) and Bjorn Copeland (Black Dice). Nancy Whang will be showcasing her DJ talents along with Gavin Rayna Russom, whose work with numerous dance-punk bands has resulted in her being labeled as, “a sort of Loleatta Holloway figure for the DFA era.”
The duo will highlight female and non-binary musicians and performers at all the shows and have also partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 from every ticket will go to RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), the largest anti-sexual violence organisation in the United States.
