Milena Galasso unveils a new single in ‘cold’, a heartbreaking ode to the dangers of our social world

Emerging indie pop songstress Milena Galasso has returned with a new single, cold, on January 12, 2024. Despite being active in the industry for less than a year, the London-based singer-songwriter has accumulated over 130,000 Spotify streams and has filled unique live music venues across the UK, including the O2 Academy Islington, The Fiddler’s Elbow, and The Victoria. She has received media support from Pop Passion Blog, who assert that she “brings a fresh, timeless energy to the highly sought-after pop music scene”. ‘Cold’ is an appetizer to Milena’s forthcoming debut EP, i hope you’re having fun, recorded at the iconic Angel and Abbey Road Studios, scheduled for release in the first half of 2024.

Milena’s plaintive, clear vocals set the somber tone for ‘cold’ with the lyrics: “Text me when you’re home tonight, I’ve heard these words echo through my mind”. The song is a haunting, powerful pop ballad exploring the anguish of lacking autonomy as a woman living in a world riddled with gender-based violence. The second verse contains the line, “boys will be men”, a reference to Dua Lipa’s track ‘Boys Will Be Boys’. Here, she feels hopeful but ultimately knows that this is an issue that we will never be completely free from – a touching meditation on universal social issues.

Milena shared: “I was stuck, because no matter how angry I felt, I still wanted to feel hopeful, but luckily, I found a new angle by showing the song to my good friend and co-writer Phil Boothroyd. Together, we considered my own and my friends’ experiences and structured the song in a way that is true to both myself and to them.”
