Minival plan to make “Berghain On Sea”
A few weeks back news emerged that an old Victorian fort, located on the Thames, was up for sale on the market. Scottish promoter Minival have announced that they are keen to transform it into “Berghain On Sea.”
Minival are known for hosting nights in bizarre locations (like rooftops) and it seems that a Fort is the next logical step forward. They hope that the Fort will become an offshore haven for those seeking the best in Techno & House nights, rivalling that of Berlin’s Power-plant Super Club Berghain.
Located off the Isle of Grain at the mouth of the Thames estuary, the fort was built in the 19th century as part of a chain of coastal defences before being extended in the 20th century with a red brick barracks block and concrete gun tower. The Fort is surrounded by water and is only accessible when the tide is out, which could make getting to the club a major issue (Party Boat ferry service maybe?). But this hasn’t dampened Minival’s spirits, they’ve fallen head over heels for the Fort’s rustic charms and potential to bring a unique clubbing experience.
“Imagine a place you could go to, to get away from it all. With the worlds best DJ’s and music running continuously. A place where you are allowed the true freedom to express yourself among friends. Lets do this.”
Big dreams however require big wallets, the Fort is currently listed at £500,000 and Minival estimate that a further £250,000 will be needed to renovate the Fort and make it “rave-worthy.” A crowd funding website has been set up and Minival have promised that whoever donates will be a member for life with free access to the Fort.
