ODESZA releases studio version of live-show fan-favourite, ‘Loyal’
Written by Arnold van der Walt
One of the most critically acclaimed electronic artists of today, ODESZA, has released a studio version of a track that’s been a fan favourite of their live shows for the past 3 years, ‘Loyal’ via Foreign Family Collective and Ninja Tune. Alongside this, ‘Loyal’ is also the official music that Apple used to launch their brand new iPhone and Apple Watch series in a quirky video.
The American duo has taken over the world with their feel-good approach to electronic music, creating uplifting dreamscapes and explosive live performances. They have headlined at some of the biggest festivals in the world including an headlining slot at Coachella 2018. Their latest album ‘A Moment Apart’ has seen more than 160 million views on Youtube, more than 300 million streams worldwide, 2 Grammy nominations and climbed to #3 on the Billboard charts. Their performances are also exquisite as they bring in live performers and instruments, hypnotising lighting shows and carefully curated visuals; they aim to bring something fresh to every show. This is the case with ‘Loyal’.
ODESZA has been performing ‘Loyal’ at their live shows since Coachella 2015 and have never released a studio version of the track. ‘Loyal’ sounds a bit different than their usual work with it being more based in hard hitting trap with deep bass and big drops than their usual uplifting tunes. It’s been a fan-favourite since it’s first performance as evidenced by the thousands of audio rips and grainy video clips that one can find scattered across video sharing platforms of the duo performing it on stages across the world. The reason behind this being that ODESZA brings the song to life at each performance with a live drumline group performing the track live on stage, including a whole brass section and choreographed dance moves. It’s a sight to behold and has always been a staple of ODESZA’s live shows.
