PC Music to stop releasing new material after ten years
London’s PC Music has announced it will cease releasing new music at the end of the year. In a statement shared to social media, the collective and label that is responsible for pioneering genres like hyperpop and bubblegum bass announced that after ten years of releasing boundary pushing music, 2023 would be its last.
The label went on to disclose that it would be pivoting toward archival projects, with a focus on reissues. The label also revealed that it has a number of new releases scheduled for the remainder of the year.
The news comes with a 100 minute playlist that celebrates PC Music’s past, present, and future for the label’s 10th anniversary. Artists such as Kane West, umuru, and PC Music founder A.G. Cook have all contributed to the playlist.
Established in 2013, PC Music was founded by Paul Chrisnall and producer A.G. Cook, initially uploading releases from artists such as QT, Hannah Diamond, and Easyfun to SoundCloud. The label has proven an influential player in contemporary pop and electronic music, with its futurist approach to production and aesthetics paving the way for a number of artists like Charli XCX and Caroline Polachek.
