From sleazy rock excess, to introspective, cracked psychedelia and back again” – Fader

Named by NME as ‘The Hottest New Band in the World’ in 2012, Perth-based psychedelic indie band POND are still hot hot hot in 2018. The band have just announced that they will be going on tour at the end of this year, kicking off their run of shows with the hip Californian Desert Daze Festival in October, which will see the likes of psych-rock lynchpins My Bloody Valentine, Ty Segall and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard this year. The band have also just released a new song, a track which is eight minutes of dreamy guitar melodies, reverb-soaked vocals and twinkling glockenspiel, which can be found via Spinning Top, Marathon Artists and Interscope.

This year also marks a decade of POND; in 2008 good friends Joseph Ryan, Nick Allbrook, and Jay Watson wanted to get together and create an all inclusive, ego-free music project, and subsequently brought out their debut album ‘Psychedelic Mango’ with a little help from Tame Impala‘s Kevin Parker. Jay Watson is currently also a full member Tame Impala as well as POND, while Nick Allbrook also contributed to both bands at one point. While the team don’t mind being compared to Tame Impala, the group doesn’t like to be done so in a patronising way.; each band has its own unique sound, despite sharing band members and being part of the same scene. POND, always bringing a touch of humour into their interactions, cites their influences as “the bigger groove, SYZZURP!, the turbule of water left behind a duck, DNA tower, every person who is, was and always will be part of POND”.

Even though POND’s single ‘Burnt Out Star’ is almost ten minutes long, it captivates for its entirety. Listen to this new release below and don’t forget to follow POND on Facebook, Soundcloud, Twitter and YouTube and check out their tour dates here.
