[PREMIERE] Emmanuel Jal & Abdul Kadir Salim – Baai (Riot Stereo & SURAJ Remix)
Following on from the major success of their 2016 remix of Kato Change’s ‘Abiro’, SURAJ and Riot Stereo present a smashing new remix of Emmanuel Jal & Abdul Gadir Salim’s ‘Baai’, premiered by The Playground on Friday, September 20th ahead of its release on September 27th, via MoBlack Records.
The remix transforms the laid-back, reflective fusion of Jal’s hip-hop stylings and the Sudanese folk of the legendary Abdul Gadir Salim, introducing infectious new energy for the dancefloor.
“I first heard the original song in the movie Blood Diamond and the vocal chant had forever stayed in my head,” says Suraj Mandavia, aka SURAJ, on the story behind the remix. “Once I started working with Riot Stereo from Prague, we were creating collaborative remixes and I remember digging this vocal chant up and we instantly flowed and created this midnight/peak rendition that focused on the vocal chants and percussive bells only.”
“This is our fourth remix together and we finished working on this remix in early 2017. After releasing an EP on Moblack & their relationship with Emmanuel Jal, I approached the label and asked if they were interested in releasing this version. After discussing with all parties we fixed a date and I am really happy how it all connected.”
It has been a long time coming for this track and we are pleased to have been able to host the first listen here on The Playground.
