PREMIERE: In conversation with Polish wave producer FIDSER as he shares an infectious trap-infused track with us, ‘Mood Swings’
Based in Krakow, Poland, FIDSER has loved music his whole life. He first took up piano as a child, but his discovery of the turntable and midi controllers soon enticed him away from traditional classical music-making, towards the exciting sounds of electronic production. After several years of expanding his musical horizons through performing and collecting vinyls for his riveting live DJ sets, FIDSER now concentrates on production in the realms of juke, footwork, moombahton, post-dubstep, glitch-hop, future bass, and future garage. A serious passion for deep subs, old-school Roland sounds, rave elements, glitch noises, cut vocals, and broken rhythms are what set FIDSER’s music apart from the masses.
FIDSER has just shared a brand new track, which is available via The Playgroun; the eclectic and dark ‘Mood Swings’. Dripping in liquid trap and oozing wave music elements, this is a track that’ll be on your mind for long after you’ve finished listening to it.
Listen to FIDSER’s brand new track, ‘Mood Swings’, below.
We caught up with FIDSER and chatted about inspiration, having patience and sharing creativity with those around you.
Hi FIDSER! Before we jump in – set the tone for us. Why the arts?
Because it is great entertainment to spend time with yourself and it’s very exciting if you can share your creativity with other people.
Which usually comes first when you’re producing – the sound or the idea?
It does not matter, sometimes it will be the sound, sometimes the idea and sometimes only drum samples.
What’s on your current playlist?
It is very diverse, it’s not based on one musical genre and the end result is not a boring set when I play.
You’ve played some really cool shows this year – tell us about the chemistry you have with your fans on stage.
Our fans are specific and come to every party, we’ve created a crew of 3 people and made events called NGHT WVTH. We invited, to our events, producers such as: Kareful, Skit, Mahoy, Jordan Comoli, GRXGVR etc.
What do you keep close by while you’re playing a set?
I’m playing from a Macbook (Ableton) with an MPD Akai professional connected to it, and beer 🙂
You are not scared to experiment with genre – what techniques do you experiment with to get your original sound?
Exactly, and you can definitely hear elements from future garage / juke / wave / trance / trap / grime / bassline/ techno / future bass in both – live sets and productions.
I often use deep bass, cut vocals forming a melody, expressive kick, snare and aggressive hat drums samples from a Roland 808, the whole thing is full of disturbing and pretty melodies.
Take us through a day in the studio with FIDSER.
I sit with an idea already in my head or without an idea, I choose the right sounds / vocals / bass / drums and I create one whole piece, it is very simple 🙂 the most important thing is taking breaks, experimenting and not hurrying to the final effect, I have learned patience over the years.
Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, “this is what I want to do”?
At the age of 5 I started playing the piano, then I played in the clubs as a DJ, in the meantime I tried my strength as a music producer, to this day it is my hobby.
If you weren’t a musician, what would you be?
I do a lot of other things but music will always be my hobby and there will always be time to produce something.
Any emerging/unknown/upcoming artists on your radar?
At the moment I do not have anyone on the radar 🙂
What gets your creative juices flowing? What gets you in the mood to make music? Whether it be music by other artists, nature, film, art etc…
The most important is calmness for several hours a day, a lot of energy and breaks between creation. Inspiration is everywhere.
Let’s get technical for a moment – take us through your collection of gear, tech or software that accompanies your creative expression.
The equipment I have is the basics, Macbook, Ableton 9, MPD Akai professional, keyboard midi xboard 61, studio monitors Alesis m1 active mk2, headphones Sennheiser hd 215, Shure microphone and many many VSTs/VSTIs.
Break down the news for us: what can we expect from FIDSER this year?
In the near future maybe some interesting collaborations and certainly a lot of things from me!
