[PREMIERE & INTERVIEW] Sahil – ‘SELF’

Over 7 minutes long, ‘SELF’ is a wonderfully controlled production that whisks the listener on an emotive journey through multiple soundscapes that get warmer as the track progresses. Shifting effortlessly through passages of intricately arranged sonic elements, the evolution and attention to detail on ‘SELF’ exhibits serious skill and investment from Sahil out of London.

Following a hiatus, the artist seems to be back with serious creative intent.

Hey Sahil, thanks for taking the time to answer some of our questions.
Looking back, what were some of your earliest entries into music appreciation? And music production?

I’ve always had an interest in music since I was a young child. I would either be playing the drums or listening to music.

What inspired you to start making the electronic music that you are now?

I have always created hip hop music but really enjoyed adding a cinematic twist to my sound. Over the years my sound has just developed into a fusion of various genres

What key pieces of gear/software are you using to define your sound?

I have always used FL Studio to produce my tracks but lately, I have been experimenting with taking the individual stems of the track and mixing/mastering them in Logic which has more defined and intricate plugins that can really transform the overall scope of the song.

What is the inspiration behind your latest release ‘Self’?

I have taken a long break from music and have just been focussing on myself for the past few years

Any new or upcoming artists on your radar?

Artists like Brent Faiyaz/Sonder, A2, Headie One have been getting a lot of heavy rotation on my music playlist lately.

What do you want to accomplish with your music?

I have some individual solo projects I want to release but ideally I would like to work with some artists

What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or releases in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?

There’s going to be a few more singles I would like to release and then after that I have an EP ‘Apollo XI’ which is in the works right now.
