Q+A: 5 minutes with EJ3000

The first thing we learned about EJ3000 is that the anonymous duo doesn’t take things too seriously, choosing instead to have a little fun and be a bit more playful than other duos out there. This isn’t to say they don’t take their music seriously. No. Rather, they take a showman’s approach to music, creating crisp, high-quality productions while also enjoying themselves. Isn’t this what it means to be an entertainer after all? 

Their new record ‘I CAN’T STOP DANCING’ is a jovial introduction to EJ3000’s work, and with its release, we got to know the twin ski-masked bandits:

Set the tone for us. Why the arts?

Hey! We do it all for the party, and we believe we are the party, and you are invited to dance at our party.

Which comes first when you’re producing – the sound or the idea?

Ideas come from the brain and sound from the heart… so you see they are dancing together .. at the same time..  and they must not stop… it’s very sexy.

Does your material feature any collaborations?

Nein at the moment.

What’s on your current playlist?

Channel Tres, Yaeji…

Tell us about the chemistry you have with your fans on stage.

Sexy, powerful, and enlightening.. but without the light, we like it dark.

What techniques do you experiment with to get your original sound?

We imagine we are surrounded by thousands of sweaty people, dancing, going crazy; it’s fantastic to do this.

Take us through a day in the recording studio.

This morning, for example, we took an Uber from Panorama bar directly to our studio. It was a little strange because we were half-naked and very sweaty, but, after a quick shower, we sat at the computer and made a really juicy beat.

Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, “this is what I want to do”?

In a past life perhaps?

What do you keep close by while you’re playing a set?

A towel, water, and the rest we keep secret, okay.

Any emerging artists on your radar?

Park Hye Jin is really cool. 

What gets your creative juices flowing?

Leather and sugar.
