Join us as we sit down with JONDOE, an emerging house DJ hailing from the historic city of Paris. The producer is currently one of the most active DJs in the city and is expanding, bringing his unmissable live performances to the rest of the world including London, France and even Brussels. His sophomore single, ‘Lost Your Mind’ is a nod to Nightcrawler’s hit song and yet remains fresh in its own terms, lending itself to the streets of Chicago and Detroit as well as the UK underground scene.

It felt only natural that we’d sit down for an exclusive interview with JONDOE – a name that’s sure to be on everyone’s lips in the upcoming months. Find it all below:

Set the tone for us. Why the arts?

I love the feeling and sharing that the arts bring to people “freedom and escape” 

Which comes first when you’re producing – the sound or the idea?

The idea, in particular, the drums

What techniques do you experiment with to get your original sound?

Sampling and cutting voices 

Take us through a day in the recording studio.

I already like the atmosphere of the studio 

I like to work with an idea or a sound intention in mind 

I look for rhythmic elements and sounds to find effective associations 

From this, I start to create the identity of the sound 

I like the studio session to be spontaneous and with a lot of feeling

What do you keep close by while you’re playing a set?

Yes I remember the 1st party I organized in a bar in Paris 

At first, I thought we would be few people and after 1 hour of mix, I saw the bar full 

People danced everywhere inside and outside, and there wasn’t enough room to accommodate everyone. That night I felt a real sharing and the power of the mix

Any emerging artists on your radar?

Yes, “Me” lol  😉 but also BRANKO / YOUNG FRANCO / CHANNEL TRES / CONDUCTA / 

What gets your creative juices flowing?

the number of hours listening to different artists and styles Old or New 

Electro / Hip Hop / Nu Soul / Soul / Jazz / Baile Funk / Afrobeat / World music

How have you refined your craft since you entered the industry?

Working and a lot of “dj sets” in different places and with different kinds of clients 

It allowed me to be more creative and adaptable and remain authentic/sincere and myself  

Breakdown the news for us: what can we expect from you this year?

This year I hope to start to settle on the electro house scene by sharing my music with as many people as possible. Playing in inspiring festivals and clubs 

I have the ambition to have regularity by releasing a new track every 2 months
