Q+A: 5 minutes with Pascal & Pearce
With THE PLAYGROUND launching its first music festival in South Africa in early 2023, DJ duo Pascal & Pearce prepare to grace the stage of TIMELESS Festival. Native to the country, the duo is a joining of names: Pascal Ellinas and Dave Pearce are two creatives who describe their music as a multi-style hybrid of dance music.

The Duo’s lively sets and melodic productions have earned them three South African Music Awards nominations in the Best Dance Album and Best Remix categories. Subsequently, the local stars started their own record label Luna Rising Music after having previously been signed to powerhouse label Universal Music Group SA.

Set the tone for us. Why the arts?
Music is the international language that connects us all. It’s an honour and privilege to perform music for people.
Which comes first when you’re producing – the sound or the idea?
The sound of an idea.
What’s on your current playlist?
This list is too long, as we listen to a lot of genres and try to immerse ourselves in what music offers.

Tell us about the chemistry you have with your fans on stage.
It’s a “giving” relationship, whereby we share the love for music.
How are you prepping for your set at TIMELESS fest?
Making sure our shirts are ironed and working on our synchronised dance moves.
Which of your songs should festival-goers put on their ‘TIMELESS’ playlist?
‘Super Gyros’. It’s being released next year.
With so many exciting acts performing at TIMELESS Festival, who are you most excited to see?
Sébastien Léger and Booka Shade are two acts that we’re amped to watch.
Imagine you’re a festival goer. Do you rough it in a tent or glamp in luxury?
Rough it if you intend on mostly dancing. Glamp it if you’re keen on more of a “sensual” dance.
What one thing MUST you absolutely have with you on stage?
Three items: Clothes. USBs. Headphones.
