Q+A: 5 minutes with VEGAS

One of the most demanded artists on the Trance scene worldwide, Brazilian DJ Paulo Vilela aka VEGAS emerged as a revelation and quickly consolidated his career becoming one of the main names of progressive trance.

 

Known for its unique, original and bold style, VEGAS’ productions overflow with quality making each performance unforgettable. We caught up with Paulo ahead of his performance at TIMELESS festival in Cape Town, South Africa. Read the interview below.

 

Set the tone for us. Why the arts?

There are no explanations for certain things. You don’t choose art, art chooses you. At some point in your life, you realize that you were born for this.

Which comes first when you’re producing – the sound or the idea?

The idea. Today, when I go to the studio I already have the song in my mind, of course the main idea, I mean. As the process goes on many other things come up and I even end up going another way and the song turns into something different from what I had in mind

What’s on your current playlist?

Basically Brazilian music, Hip Hop, Reggae, I love local music.

Tell us about the chemistry you have with your fans on stage.

It’s all about the music, as I say in the track Bae Bae: “we are all connected on secret frequencies”. It’s about the power of electronic music to connect us, even if we don’t speak the same language

How are you prepping for your set at TIMELESS fest?

I’ve only been to South Africa once and that’s it. For many years now, I’ve been preparing a presentation with my classic hits and lots of unreleased tracks.

Imagine you’re a festival goer. Do you rough it in a tent or glamp in luxury?

When I was 23 years old Tent, but now I’m 36 so, a glamp hahaha

What one thing MUST you absolutely have with you on stage?

Positive energy
