Q+A: Five minutes with PLS&TY

For Florida producer Tommy Leas, AKA PLS&TY, the past is an opportunity to imagine the future. His beginnings in bombastic, ecstatic future bass are rooted in the sounds of classic R&B and hip-hop, grounding his forward thinking sound in a distinct tradition of taste. This approach has seen undeniable success. With a string of releases on major labels, appearances on the lineups of A-list festivals, and over 100 million streams across platforms, PLS&TY is one of electronic music’s most rapidly burgeoning stars. His new EP 3 Days, 2 Nights sees Leas explore the aesthetics of another classic style – house music – while still acting on his instinct for reinvention. Leas provided us with an exclusive mix in celebration of the EP’s release, and we chatted with him about the exciting new direction of PLS&TY and what we can expect from him next. Listen and read  below.

Tell us a bit about the direction of this mix?

The mix includes much of the new ‘3 Days, 2 Nights’ EP, as well as two new unreleased songs at the very beginning and end. Standing on new ground for the direction of PLS&TY original music moving forward, the mix represents a style of electronic music that I’ve been really excited about.

Your new EP 3 Days, 2 Nights is arriving this summer. How does this mix hint at the vibe of your new music?

All of the new and upcoming PLS&TY music finds itself within the soundscape of the mix. If you enjoy what is within this mix, you’ll be sure to enjoy what is to come.

Of the six tracks on the EP, which one are you most excited to share with your fans and why?

I’m really excited for fans to hear what ended up being a bonus track on the EP – “Echoes” featuring Jocelyn Alice. It’s the one true curveball from the EP being that the production sits within the “drum and bass” genre, while the rest lean into a “house” genre scope.

Where can we see you live in the coming months?

To be determined! My agents are working on a plethora of new live dates surrounding the EP and beyond. Stay tuned.
