REVIEW: KANT – Nightcall

Kant burst onto the scene well over a year ago, and he’s an artist whose reputation continues to grow with every release.  The Copenhagen resident has got a strong body of original material under his belt, including releases on heavyweight labels such as Kittball and Toolroom, but Kant has also been busy dropping remixes for the likes of Jessie K, Outkast and NERO. His ability to dismantle and then rebuild tunes in his own inimitable style is what has drawn him an army of admirers and no doubt is what helped the attention of Black Butter Records. Having launched the careers of the likes of Rudimental, Clean Bandit, Woz, Gorgon City and Kidnap Kid, the Black Butter seal of approval is almost like a guarantee for success.

Nightcall is somewhat of a departure from Kant’s previous releases; with soulful vocals atop minimal production, the rolling beats and a sprinkling synth melody are restrained allowing the dual vocals room to flourish.  This might be Kant’s biggest ‘Crowd pleaser‘ to date and could well go on to soundtrack the rest of the post Ibiza, post club summer. Kant has produced the perfect soundtrack for those early hours.
