REVIEW: ODESZA – Light (Feat Little Dragon)
This week, Seattle based production duo ODESZA released their new single ‘Light’. This track comes as their first piece of new material this year. Previous to this, the pair had already built up a solid reputation through a steady stream of original singles like Say My Name and All We Need aligned with remix duties for the likes of Slow Magic and Hayden James. This all culminated in the well-received release of their debut album last year, In Return, through the Foreign Family Collective label.
One thing which has become clear about ODESZA is that they’re not strangers to collaboration; their debut featured seven different vocalists across its thirteen tracks. It’s a strategy that has worked well for them in the past and it looks like this track is following suit. For their latest effort they have enlisted Yukimi Nagano of Swedish band Little Dragon.
A mellow atmosphere is set in the opening bars, pulling you in immediately. Following on in a similar vein from the duo’s previous tracks, Light is laden with synths, with the production leaving plenty of room for Little Dragon’s airy vocal to almost drift atop. Vocalist Yukimi Nagano‘s soulful coos are supported by a sultry, swaggering drum machine groove and a twinkling sheen of softly glimmering chord swells. Together, it’s a match made in heaven.
