Rhys Celeste (aka Microlith) Passes Away At Age 24
In tragic news, the death of Rhys Celeste – known in musical circles as Microlith – has been confirmed. Celeste was killed in a quad bike accident on Sunday afternoon in the town of Mosta, Malta, after he lost control of his bike and collided with a bus.
The extremely talented Microlith recently released a four-track EP, 1234, his fourth EP to go along with four full-length albums. His work was mostly self-released via Bandcamp, although Sheffield’s Central Processing Unit (CPU) released his 2016 LP Dance With Me, as well as two other EPs.
A dear member of the CPU family has passed.
RIP Rhys Celeste aka Microlith. Tragic news. So young and so full of talent.— CPU Records (@CPURECORDS) February 26, 2017
Microlith’s melodic techno and IDM was described as continuing the legacy of the “braindance” scene originally led by the likes of Aphex Twin, Bochum Welt and Cylob. Celeste also recently collaborated on Malta’s first dubstep album, Time, with long-time friend and fellow producer Depth (Niel Fenech).
