Romy – Strong
You likely know Romy Madley Croft best as the sullen, somewhat distant guitarist and vocalist of The xx. But two years ago, the British singer switched that narrative with the release of Lifetime, a bubbly and bouncy certified bop that threw it back to the euphoria of the 90’s gay club. With Lifetime, Romy revealed a different side to herself; one that had been partying at the likes of Ghetto in London since she was 17, and one that was unabashedly and joyously queer.

Strong, her latest single, continues the nostalgic electronic direction of Lifetime by once again roping in producer Fred Again…, this time joined by Stuart Price. The edition of Price is tangible on Strong, which takes shape as a euphoric 2000’s trance banger. Romy’s softspoken vocals exhale across the kinetic track, with its buoyant bass and quick four on the floor pulse. Strong ultimately strikes the right chords between emotional and ecstatic, making for a surefire dancefloor hit rich with nostalgia.
