Roundup, July #1
We roundup our picks for the must hear releases of the week. Listen to our selections below.
Priya Ragu – Easy
Singer-songwriter Priya Ragu’s latest single is a bouncy garage pop number that’s as slick as it is catchy. With its shimmering breaks, rotund bass, and licks of sax, Easy sounds chic, while Ragu’s breezy vocals make the whole thing feel effortless.
Skrillex, Boys Noize – Fine Day Anthem
Reworking a classic rave sample into a chugging techno stomper, Skrillex and Boys Noize show their nostalgic sides next to their nasty ones. Fine Day Anthem is full of abyssal sub-bass and propulsive kicks, driven by jittery trance synths. This one has been floating around the producers’ sets for a while, and we’re thankful it’s now out in the open.
Yotto, Alison Goldfrapp – So Hard So Hot
Melodic techno producer Yotto takes Alison Goldfrapp’s recent solo single into the realm of euphoric and spellbinding trance, adding a ruddering synthline and waning, hazy sirens. Yotto turns the deep house standout from Goldfrapp’s recent album into delicious peak time earcandy, layering darker nuances to highlight the track’s inherent sensuality.
ABSOLUTE., Kylie Minogue – Padam Padam (All Weekend Remix)
Kylie Minogue’s unlikely hot girl summer anthem gets an extensive and shapeshifting rework from ABSOLUTE, who pulls the tech house pop banger through a number of 90’s trance cycles. Its three and a half minute runtime feels remarkably longer, and ABSOLUTE. somehow manages to make a Kylie track even more camp.
Tove Lo, Dorian Electra – I like u (Dorian Electra Remix)
For their remix of Tove Lo’s latest standalone single, hyperpop jester Dorian Electra leans further into the pulse racing 90’s rave energy of the original, while adding a verse of their own into the mix. Their version is short and snappy, albeit a bit too short.
