Tourist – Your Love
Returning from a two year hiatus and marking a decade of the Tourist moniker, British writer and producer William Phillips’s first single off his forthcoming album is a deeply personal one. Created in memory of a friend lost during the pandemic, Your Love is a stunning ode to the memory of the euphoria this person held for Phillips. An effervescent, glowing house track, Your Love features bright keys and a modulating bassline. But it’s Phillips’s somewhat melancholic vox samples and ambient touches that colour Your Love with an entire prism of emotion, making for some truly gorgeous dance music.
Sherelle, Lone -Visited By Astronauts (Sherelle had a groove remix)
Sherelle remixing the ambient trip-hop of Lone is a surprising and inspired choice, and for her spin on Visited By Astronauts, she takes us deep into the jungle. Granted, Visited By Astronauts gives Sherelle a lot of room to do her own thing, with the original being a spacey piece of ambient psychedelia and drone noise. Sherelle take’s the track’s pan-pipe like main refrain and throws it behind absolutely monstrous and breakneck jungle beats, with perfectly timed breaks that create exhilarating peaks and valleys.
Madonna, Sickick, Fireboy DML
Rumour has it that Madonna is working on an extensive remix album of her most popular singles. This one in particular found its way online (by chance?) and went viral on TikTok, prompting this official release. An icy rework of her seminal 1998 single Frozen from Ray Of Light, Canadian producer Sickick pitches down and throws the haunting chorus of the track against cold, bass boosted trap while Fireboy DML offers a melancholic verse. The 90’s revival continues.
Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul – It Hit Me
Last year, Belgium electronic duo Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul released one of the year’s strangest and most exciting dance tracks with the unhinged HAHA, a precursor to their debut album Tropical Dancer which is available now. While we plan on covering the album in full next week, we couldn’t help but highlight one of the LP’s surefire standouts. Co-produced by Soulwax, It Hit Me feels like a weirder, more surreal version of Soulwax’s Heaven Scent. Adigéry’s delivery of the spoken word piece about sexual attraction (nee, abjection) against the track’s propulsive, industrious synths and scattered beat makes for an alluring and uncanny experience.
A.G. Cook, Vernon, Charli XCX & Rina Sawayama – Beg For You (A.G. Cook & VERNON OF SEVENTEEN Remix)
For his latest remix of Charli XCX’s single Beg For You with Rina Sawayama, A.G. Cook eschews his usual hyperpop sound to keep the original’s UKG vibe intact, tapping K-Pop star Vernon for a guest feature. Cook works magic on the track, which infamously features a very on the nose interpolation of September’s Cry For You. The iconic riff is there, but Cook spins it into something entirely new in a way that feels more successful and aligned to Beg For You’s vision than the original, if we’re being honest.
