Rustie – Green Language

Green Language: In mythology, medieval literature and occultism, the language of the birds is postulated as a mystical, perfect divine language, green language, adamic language, enochian language, angelic language or a mythical or magical language used by birds to communicate with the initiated.

Scottish producer extraordinaire Rustie released a follow up to 2011’s ‘Glass Swords’ yesterday. With ‘Green Language’, Rustie explores a handful of new genres. ‘Lost’ and ‘Dream On’ are prime examples of great R&B, ‘Tempest’ unleashes a storm of Post-Rock guitar work and ‘Attak’ provides an assault on the ears with Danny Brown providing hyper, aggressive vocals.

Green Language’s opener ‘Workship’ feels like the perfect track for having a nice stretch in the middle of an idyllic countryside scene, having just stepped off your spacecraft. And the closing track ‘Green Language’ conveys its name perfectly. Beautifully serene, it winds the album down through a series of twists with a few unsettling turns here and there.

‘…a mythical or magical language used by birds to communicate with the initiated.’ – If you weren’t initiated into Rustie’s musical world already, you certainly will be by the end of ‘Green Language’.
