Release Date: 29 January, 2021
Prolific Icelandic band GusGus have returned with a brand new single; entitled ‘Stay The Ride (Cast A Light)’ – the artists have released the single alongside a vivid, luminous official music video that compliments the track perfectly. Futuristic visuals glowing with rich purples, hues of reds and bewitching psychedelia, the video itself captures the aura of the track almost perfectly. Their previous single ‘HIGHER’ featured Icelandic band VÖK, with vocalist Margrét Magnúsdóttir appearing on ‘Stay The Ride’.
Bright and bold sculpting a dance-driven dreamland of new-wave blended with post-punk; in ‘Stay The Ride’, GusGus create a juxtaposing sense of nostalgia and modernity – capturing contemporary elements of revised new-wave dance music in their retro-futuristic visuals and extraterrestrial 80s-esque synths.
Colourful, bright and sharp synthesizer chords pulse in tandem with Margrét Magnúsdóttir’s celestial vocals as the track segues into a focus on the deep, spellbinding voice of GusGus’ lead vocalist Daníel Ágúst Haraldsson; with the harmonization between the two a major driving highlight in ‘Stay The Ride (Cast A Light)’. We never know what GusGus will bring, and with this single we look forward to what will hopefully be a new full length album on the way.
