Spotify acquires online music guessing game, Heardle

Spotfiy has acquired the music guessing game, Heardle. A version of popular New York Times owned Wordle, Heardle challenges users to guess songs based on increasing snippets of music. The game experienced a surge in popularity off the back of Wordle.

Following Spotify’s acquisition of Heardle, the game has been blocked in various territories. Thus far, Heardle is only available to play in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and the UK, where it remains free to play for users.

In a press release from Spotify, Global Head of Music Jeremy Erlich stated, “We are always looking for innovative and playful ways to enhance music discovery and help artists reach new fans. Heardle has proven to be a really fun way to connect millions of fans with songs they know and love and with new songs… it aligns with our plans to deepen interactivity across the Spotify ecosystem.”

According to Pitchfork, since being taken over by Spotify multiple users have noticed that their Heardle stats have disappeared. Spotify have yet to comment on why this is the case.
