Spotify launch event ticketing site as ‘experiment’

Spotify has launched a new site that sells concert tickets directly to fans. The site went live on August 10th, with several artists “ticketed by Spotify,” including Tokimonsta and Four Years Strong. Users can buy tickets for events from these artists scheduled for later in the year, as well as view past events. Users will also have access to a history of purchase made through the site.

A Spotify ticketing functionality was first hinted at in June this year. In a blog post, one spokesperson from Spotify spoke about how users were exiting their native Spotify applications to purchase tickets from other sites. The post then mentioned plans for a ‘Live Events Feed’ to help close this loop… ease the burden on fans, reduce the competition artists need to contend with to stand out, and create new efficiencies around marketing.” The idea was to create a feed that listed upcoming concerts and events from the likes of Ticketmaster, AXS, Dice, Eventbrite, and See Tickets

Speaking to Billboard, a spokesperson for Spotify elaborated on the new site, claiming that for now it is just an experiment. “At Spotify, we routinely test new products and ideas to improve our user experience,” they said. “Tickets.spotify.com is our latest test. We have no further news to share on future plans at this time.”
