Swedish House Mafia unveil collaboration with IKEA
Electronic music group Swedish House Mafia have unveiled their collaboration with IKEA. The joint venture was announced earlier this year, with the products being officially unveiled at a launch event in Hollywood last Wednesday.
The limited -edition collection, titled Obegränsad, comprises 20+ smart home furniture pieces designed to help young creatives set up their own home studios. The collection includes a record player, various stands for equipment, LED flooring, a smart armchair and various accessories. The collection is slated to launch for sale globally in October.
The all black collection is specifically engineered for music production and DJ-ing. The shelving height corresponds with that of a standard DJ booth, with easy access points to vinyl and equipment, while the desks in the collection feature stands designed to mount speakers.
During a Q&A at the collection’s launch event, Swedish House Mafia member Steve Angello spoke about the inspiration behind working with IKEA. “Growing up, we used to hack IKEA’s furniture all the time,” he said. “We approached them about doing something that would cater to our younger selves. Something that we would be able to put out to the public that was affordable, functional and just a great product.”
Fellow member Axwell added that the collection was designed for creatives who work from home on their laptops. “With this collection, we aim to facilitate a little bit of that, making it a little bit easier and accessible for them to make music in their homes.” “We wanted to make a music environment,” Angello added, “it’s a beautiful thing to value something and we wanted to give that opportunity to everybody.”
