‘Syro’ to grab a grammy?
Aphex Twin’s 2014 album ‘Syro’ has been shortlisted for a Grammy.
2015 will be the Grammies’ 57th year and will see the addition of two new categories, ‘Best Dance Recording’ and ‘Best Dance Album.’ In previous years The Grammies have had a rocky relationship with the Dance Music scene, having awarded newcomers, like Skrillex, awards in order to seem “current” and their “clumsy” Tribute To EDM which shoehorned David Guetta, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Foo Fighters and Deadmau5 into one grab-bag performance.
This year however it seems like they may have got it right. The nominees for this year range from chart successors like Little Dragon and Duke Dumont to progressive acts like ZHU and Aphex Twin.
Aphex Twin’s ‘Syro’ has been listed for ‘Best Dance Album.’ The album seems a strong candidate considering it was the comeback release for the prolific artist and considering the density of the material it probably stands a fair chance against the other nominees, which include Deadmau5, Little Dragon and Röyksopp & Robyn.
The ceremony will take place on February 8 when the results of the votes cast by Royal Academy Members will be announced.
