Ticketing & Promotion Giant Live Nation To Test Drive-In & Crowdless Concerts

Live Nation’s goal is to resume concerts at “full-scale” in 2021.

As we are adapting to the increasingly turbulent circumstances around us, and realising just how much we’ve taken so many of the little things in our lives for granted:

(I find myself feeling quite ridiculous for all the times I moaned and complained about the sweltering heat in the middle of a packed crowd, in those endearingly dingy venues as I was watching my favourite bands. I would take it all back in a heartbeat.)

We are figuring out new ways to instill a sense of normalcy into a very not-so-normal situation, to say the least. Considering how, pretty much every live music event, concert and festival has had to be postponed or cancelled this year for very good reason, we as a collective, and more specifically in this context – in music community – are feeling very bleak. For lack of a better word.

In order to bring the joy of live music back to our population, ticketing agency and promotion company Live Nation have announced they are preparing options for crowd-less gigs – a physical distancing practice that has already been tested in Denmark and Sweden – with a German club even hosting their own drive-in rave.

The company has stated that this could include audience-less concerts broadcast to fans live while watching from home, the previously mentioned drive-in events – or if it is safe to do so, concerts that are held live but with strict physical-distancing measures in place.

“It’s important for us to keep doing drive-in concerts, which we’re going to test and roll out, which we’re having some success with, fanless concerts which have great broadcasting opportunities, reduced capacity festival concerts, which could be outdoors, could be in a theatre, could be in a large stadium floor where there’s enough room to be safe.”

These are just possible temporary measures to bring live music back into our lives and boost the industry, and Live Nation have shared their goal is to resume concerts at “full scale” in 2021.
