Tomorrowland to release series of fantasy novels based on the festival’s previous themes
Electronic music festival Tomorrowland is releasing a series of fantasy novels inspired by the themes and their corresponding worlds created for various editions of the festival over the years. According to an exclusive story published by Variety, the book series will be based on the fantastical worlds that have formed a part of the Tomorrowland universe, and will also be touted for adaptation to a movie or TV franchise.
Tomorrowland was created by brothers Manu and Michiel Beers who launched the festival in Belgium in 2005. Since then, the festival has gained a reputation for being “The Disneyland of music festivals,” due to its immersive otherworldly visuals, art installations, and lighting. Speaking on the decision to diversify the brand with books and film, Michiel Beers told Variety: “Every year Tomorrowland presents a new festival theme, which comes to life via a beautiful trailer, at the legendary Mainstage and throughout the festival grounds. As the stories and characters of each theme cannot be expressed fully during the festival, we have dreamt for years of taking more time to develop them.” He continued, “Three years ago we set up our fiction department, where with a passionate team, we bring to life the magical worlds and storylines of the Tomorrowland themes. We aim to build a legacy of storytelling and we look forward to sharing our stories with the world in the years to come.”
To bring their new vision to life, Tomorrowland is working with literary agent Paul Lucas of Janklow & Nesbit. United Talent Agency’s Jason Richman will handle film rights. Speaking of the partnership, Beers said: “Paul shares our affection for great fantasy stories, so we can’t wait to take our first steps into publishing with him. We are delighted that Jason Richman will be taking the series’ book-to-screen rights under his wings as he is well-acquainted with the Tomorrowland DNA and an expert in his field at United Talent Agency. With the representation by Paul and Jason we believe our dream can become reality soon.”
There is no word yet on when the book series is expected to arrive.
