TP Mix #132 – Dachshund
With an extensive discography, Swiss music producer Dachshund has maintained a successful career with his ever-evolving sound. The producer’s favourite genre to produce is the more underground stylings of dub electronic. Through the years, Dachshund explored the textures of house and techno, but always gravitated back to his roots. Maintaining a close friendship with music producer Quenum, these peers would launch their own imprint CLAPPER which celebrates the unique qualities of electronic music, and allows musicians to experiment and be spontaneous as they wish. We are pleased to present an hour of innovative and refreshing electronic notes with an exclusive mix from the man himself – Dachshund.

Which comes first when you’re producing – the sound or the idea?
Most of the time It’s related, as there is no “materialized” idea without a sound. But I’m trying to make both at the same time. The difficulty for me is not to be absorbed by the sound and let escape the ideas.
Does your material feature any collaborations?
Yes, I do collaborations, the latest one is with Chaton and it is released on Damian Lazarus’s label Rebellion. An upcoming one is with my long-time friend Quenum and will be out soon on Sol Selectas.

Tell us about the chemistry you have with your fans on stage.
Trying my best to give good sensory stimulation to make people dance.
What techniques do you experiment with to get your original sound?
I’m curious about sound in general and like to spend time learning new software or hardware. Right now it’s in constant evolution, thanks to the patinated developers and the modular world.
Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, “this is what I want to do”?
Probably when I had my first gig and got some good feedback from the crowd.
What do you keep close by while you’re playing a set?
The balance between what I like and what people expect.
What gets your creative juices flowing?
Changing habits, getting a break, walking.
Take us through your collection of gear, tech or software that accompanies your creative expression.
I have been lucky to work in music stores and collect gear for 20 years. One of the shop’s specialties was vintage and analog gears. So I got for example; a Roland Space Echo RE-201, Roland Jupiter 6, Korg MS 10, and more. The main DAW I’m using is Ableton Live with other plugins/software like the ones from M4L or Native Instrument.
Any side projects you’re working on?
A collaboration with the swiss artist Costals.
How have you refined your craft since you entered the industry?
Keeping the passion and pleasure as the first priority.
