ULTRADEMON

ANNOUNCES “DURIAN RIDER” LP

LABEL: THE PLAYGROUND Records

RELEASE DATE: 27th November 2015

Chicago’s Ultrademon (aka Albert Redwine) follows his 2012 Seapunk debut LP for Richard D James’s Rephlex label, sophomore effort Voidic Charms on Coral Records Internazionale, and the Hakim Bey-influenced Pirate Utopias with a third album that elevates his unique sound to a new level of dreamlike intensity and futuristic energy. Redwine’s hyperactive, glitchy, semi-apocalyptic electronic music is more vivid and cinematic than ever. Durian Rider draws on a variety of influences from footwork, dubstep and synthpop to R&B, house and techno – variously echoing the likes of Grimes, Zomby, Joker, Evian Christ, Arca and FKA Twigs – but submerges each of them in Redwine’s characteristic and highly individual oceanic sound to be released on THE PLAYGROUND Records on the 27th November.

Redwine’s music draws as much on the visual as the sonic. Tracks like ‘Paradox Blade’, ‘Wet Again’ and ‘Moonlit’ evoke underwater cities of painstakingly detail and design. This visual element is hardly surprising, as he was one of the guiding lights behind the short lived but influential ‘seapunk’ movement, which gained mainstream attention when Rihanna appropriated the aesthetic for an appearance on Saturday Night Live (an event which effectively ended the movement).

Redwine likens his music to “Dark nights, dusky maidens, future raves, full moon beach parties, desert stars, vine hung horizons, industrial wastelands, cyberspace DJs, mecha demon magic, ethnobotanical basslines, dark crystal messiahs, teen anime love stories, stinging auras, fungal fantasy house, nautical elves, and voidic charms”. Fantastical though it might sound,‘Durian Rider’ delivers all of this and more.
